Abia State Advisory Council renews call for legislation on Abia Charter of Equity
The Abia State Advisory Council led by its Chairman, Ezeogo ( Dr.) Anaga Ezeikpe and his Deputy, Sir (Barr.) Chikezie Nwachukwu has renewed the call for the Abia State government, particularly, the State House of Assembly to put the Abia Charter of equity into law.

The Council made the call while addressing the Press ahead of the 28 anniversary of the creation of Abia State coming up on Tuesday, next week. This according to the Council would ensure that no zone in the State is cheated in the political leadership of Abia State. They informed that the Council has taken the proposal to the State House of Assembly for several times without success.
Assessing the level of progress made so far by the State, the Council said the State has not faired too bad as it has achieved the rotation of governorship position among the three Senatorial zones including; Abia North, Abia Central and Abia South and other things. They stressed the need for continuous improvement in infrastructure in the State as it would lead to the more rapid development of Abia. The Council called on the political class to always continue with projects embarked upon by her predecessors, where such projects are yet to be completed, maintaining that government is a continuum.
They highlighted some of the constraints to rapid development of the state to include unrestrained court litigations that have always followed governorship elections in the State from its creation to now, especially, from 1999 to date stating that the litigations have affected the state negatively, slowed down its progress and led to needless divisions among the people of the State.
The council further stated that if the State House of Assembly enacts the law backing Abia chatter of equity, it would reduce to its bearest minimum, the rate of election litigations in the State as well as ensure the entrenchment of equity and fairness in the sharing of political offices.
The Council outlined programmes of event to mark the 2019 Abia Day Celebrations to include; Friday, 22nd Jumu’ah prayers in mosques, Sunday, 25th, August Church service at Mater Dei Cathedral and Tuesday, 27th the grand finale of the anniversary celebration and called on Abians to remain resolute in supporting the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu while wishing all a happy celebration.
