There was apprehension in Obinze community, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State when the butchered body of the chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) was discovered in a bush in the area.
It was originally suspected by residents of the settlement that the deadly act was perpetrated in the middle of the night, by a suspected group of cattle rustlers.
When newsmen visited the scene, the body of late Yaya was seen lying lifelessly on the floor, in the pool of his blood. He had sustained several deep machete cuts on his face, neck and other parts of his body.
Speaking to newsmen, the visibly traumatized immediate younger brother of late Yaya, Alhaji Usaini Haruna made a shocking revelation, narrating how one of their cousins whose name he gave as Sali Musa has been issuing threats to kill both of them and take over their cows.
The Sirki of Northerners in Imo state, Waziri Baba Suleiman who also visited the scene, expressed shock over the death of Yaya Haruna, whom many described as a man of peace, adding that he has been instrumental to the tranquillity and peaceful coexistence being enjoyed between cattle breeders and other residents of the state.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu said he was yet to get a full brief on the matter. He promises to state once he gets full details of the incident.
