A 12-year-old boy, known only as Paul, has died after being shot by his landlord for entering the landlord’s compound to retrieve a football on Monday.

This tragic news was shared by Paul’s guardian, Mr Jonathan Odikanwa, on Thursday afternoon from the Specialist Hospital in Umuguma, Owerri, just a day after Paul underwent surgery.
Mr Odikanwa had previously appealed for prayers for Paul’s recovery as he faced complications related to his bowel movements. Unfortunately, despite the medical team’s efforts, Paul’s condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and the landlord’s arrest. The police are expected to provide updates on the investigation and potential charges against the landlord.
On Monday, Paul, a JSS 1 student at Urban Secondary School, entered the landlord’s compound to retrieve a ball that had accidentally entered during a game. The landlord then shot Paul in the waist, causing critical injuries.
