Sowore Demands Sack of Prof. Oloyede As Nigerians Call for JAMB Scrap

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has launched a scathing criticism of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following the death of a student who committed suicide over her poor result.

Taking to social media on Thursday, Sowore described Nigerian public officials as “dangerous,” accusing Prof. Oloyede of overseeing a “monumental disaster” that resulted in the loss of a young life. He expressed outrage at what he perceived as a lack of accountability and empathy during a press conference held by the board.

“This is a country of really dangerous public officials; while JAMB registrar is here forming, he ‘regrets’ the monumental disaster he superintended upon that has claimed a young life, and instead of resigning immediately, he brought to the same press conference a bunch of callous yesmen to clap for him,” Sowore wrote.

The activist ended his statement with a call for immediate action, using the hashtag #ScrapJAMB and demanding the dismissal of Prof. Oloyede.

As of now, JAMB has not officially responded to Sowore’s statement but many Nigerians are calling for the scrapping of JAMB following its admittance of error in the just released 2025 UTME results which led to over 390,000 students affected in the South East and Lagos.

Joseph Onuorah reacted and said; “Jamb should be scrapped. Replaced by University own entrance exams as done in many countries.

Catchment areas scrapped.

Unity schools disjointed cut off marks scrapped. All states should cut off at 100 marks.

Education MUST be free from shackles of NEPOTISTIC TENDENCIES.”

Dr Charles Odogwu wrote; “JAMB has lost it’s credibility.

Admissions in Southeast for this year must go on without JAMB.
Universities in the region should conduct independent assessment of prospective students.”

Aisha Yesufu wrote; “If Nigeria had a President, the Minister Of Education would have been sacked immediately. That man came to say it was measures they put in place to stop cheating that led to the mass failure.

Wait a minute, or is it that something was actually put in place to massively fail students?”

Ilemona wrote; “There’s no bigger evidence of malice and bad faith than the fact that JAMB found out about the problem with their results on April 25, 2025 but went ahead to release the results and did not admit their error until May 14, 2025.

It took them 19 days to admit the error. 19 days”

Nnabuenyi Ugonabo wrote; “Crying on camera without resigning is just the usual political drama and Nigerians love drama a lot. Na their mumu button be that!”

@firstladyship wrote; “JAMB fixed the logic problem in other regions but somehow forgot to fix that of Lagos + SE?

It was deliberate, that was no coincidence. In Nigeria, at least since Bola’s Regime, there are no happenstances, nothing is as it seems.

It was sabotage (to arrive at a predetermined outcome). We’ve seen it before. Everything you need is right in front of you. You just have to look closer. Buhari never liked our SE brothers, but at least, he hid his agenda in plain sight.

People only got to know through Bashir AhMAD’s tweets. But Bola Tinubu is not smart, not for one bit. He does his bigotry in the open.

IT’S SEEN FROM SPACE!

WAEC deleted its own tweet that praised Peter Obi (for his solid performance in education in Anambra state). That tweet was dated 2016.

JAMB retweeted a tweet from a Tinubu supporter & a Ponu bigot. JAMB tackled Peter Obi when he raised alarm on JAMB’s “poor scheduling” of the 2025 UTME examinations.

INEC liked a tweet that attacked Peter Obi. There are plethora of examples.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to bastardize your State Institutions. No institution is spared. From INEC to the Judiciary, WAEC to JAMB. The EFCC is not spared in the turmoil of this era.

Now the question is, “what will happen to PUBLIC TRUST after this incompetent regime? Will Nigerians ever trust those institutions long after this Fascist dictator is gone & forgotten?”

These are critical national questions & they are yours! But before you answer, examine thy conscience thoroughly. Because Peter is known for his solid performance in education.

He walks the talk, to this day even.

In a less than ideal society, the best candidate is the one receiving the most abuse. Peter is the man that everyone critiques at every turn. He is the man receiving the most abuse.

There were no fact-checkers until he burst into the scene. Suddenly, Nigerians began to pay attention to data & critical thinking. Our country is the sleeping giant that sold itself short. Peter came & opened our eyes to the great potential that Nigeria could become.

So I commend JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, for at least opening [himself & JAMB] up for public scrutiny. That was courageous; by so doing, he earned my respect. I commend his accountability & empathy, at least to the little girl who had to take her own life. This shouldn’t have happened, but there are lessons here.

Unlike INEC who switched off the IREV & offered no explanations to this day, JAMB did the right thing, & should be commended. Accountability is alien to Nigeria, it’s not something we see everyday.

I had to come out of my self-imposed & well-deserved sabbatical to tweet this. Education is a topic so dear to my heart, & for good reasons.

You don’t expect someone with a so-called Chicago State University Certificate to understand any of these. But China fixed its education before its massive infrastructure.

For a country yet to attain its potential in 65 years, education should be FREE up to university. Instead of Student Loans, think Scholarships & Free University Education

Nigeria must go hard or go home, no half-measures. Only education can drive 5x GDP. Only the educated comfortably pay taxes. Only education guarantees a $1 Trillion Economy.

Education is HDI.
Education is IGR.
HDI is for the masses.
IGR is for the politicians.

If given the chance to choose between white elephant projects & education, I’ll choose the latter. Only educated Nigerians will build Naija

Following the Opium Wars & the Revolutions that followed, up to the Xinhai Rebellion, China sent it first batch of students to England & America to gain “Western Education.”

Education in its Western form saved China.

And 5 decades later, Chinese diaspora returned home. Then the Miracle we see today in China, the Miracle of Opening-up called “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics,” began.

Like China, Nigeria will be no different. Only Education will save Nigeria. Not government houses, airports & white elephant projects.”
