Mbah Reiterates Demand for 13% Oil Derivation as RMAFC Team Visits Enugu

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has renewed calls for the implementation of the 13% oil derivation revenue due to the state, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended), during a courtesy visit by the Indices and Disbursement Committee of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) on Monday.

The committee, led by Mr. Ismaila Mohammed Agaka, visited the Government House to assess how federal allocations and internally generated revenues are being utilized within the state.

Governor Mbah used the occasion to restate Enugu’s entitlement to oil derivation revenue following the RMAFC’s official recognition of the state as an oil-producing region in December 2022. This recognition came after the Inter-agency Technical Committee identified Anambra River Basin Fields 1, 2, and 3 as eligible oil fields.

“Despite this recognition, Enugu is yet to receive a share of the derivation. I have urged the Commission to activate the necessary processes to ensure our state begins to receive its constitutional entitlement,” Mbah said.

The governor also highlighted significant strides in revenue generation, noting a 400% increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through reforms and technology-driven anti-leakage strategies. He projected an ambitious N500 billion in IGR for the year 2025, expressing confidence that the state would surpass the target.

Governor Mbah further emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency and grassroots development, assuring that local governments continue to receive 100% of their statutory allocations, along with state support for capital projects.

He thanked the RMAFC team for their visit and commended Mr. Agaka for recognizing the state’s developmental efforts.
