Police Dismantle Illegal Gun Factory in Udi, Recover Weapons and Tools
The Enugu State Police Command has dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication workshop operating in Amofia-Agu Affa, Udi Local Government Area, in a major breakthrough against arms proliferation in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the raid was carried out on June 30, 2025, around 4 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad following actionable intelligence.
The operation was sparked by the arrest of one Ekene Okafor, a 32-year-old member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, who had earlier been apprehended for conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms. Okafor reportedly confessed and led police operatives to the workshop, where his locally made cut-to-size gun was being serviced.
The owner of the workshop fled upon sighting the police, but several items were recovered from the scene. These include one locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two English-made double-barrel guns, eight single-barrel guns, two live and eight expended cartridges, three generator sets, and a variety of tools used in the fabrication and repair of firearms.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing workshop operator.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the tactical squad for the successful operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms proliferation and related crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant and support the police with credible information.
