Abia Govt. Commences Payment of Outstanding Salaries, Entitlements of Verified Former Councillors
The Abia State Government has commenced the payment of outstanding salaries and entitlements owed to verified former Councillors who served across the seventeen (17) Local Government Areas of the State between 1999 and 2022.

This development follows the successful verification exercise conducted to authenticate legitimate claims and ensure that the process is transparent, fair, and accountable.
The payments, which are being executed in phases, will be made in three instalments to accommodate the number of beneficiaries and ensure an orderly and sustainable settlement process.
This action is in line with the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, Governor of Abia State, to uphold the principles of justice, dignity, equity, and fairness in governance. The Governor has consistently demonstrated a leadership style that prioritises responsibility and integrity, choosing to confront longstanding challenges head-on, even when they originated from past administrations.
By addressing these outstanding obligations, the present administration is reaffirming its belief that public service deserves recognition and respect, and that those who have contributed to the governance of the State should not be left without their lawful entitlements.
True to his promise of restoring trust in government, Governor Otti continues to take bold and responsible steps to resolve inherited issues, strengthen institutions, and promote inclusive governance, irrespective of political affiliation or background.
Signed
Prince Uzor Nwachukwu
Hon. Commissioner
Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
