“Be Vigilant” – Aguocha Urges Igbo Communities Amid Rising Kidnappings
The lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Obi Aguocha, has called on communities across the South-East to become more vigilant and proactive in protecting lives and property in the face of growing security concerns.

Aguocha appealed the abduction of a woman and a commercial tricycle operator at Alaocha, located in Umuahia North Local Government Area. The victims were reportedly rescued the same night through the coordinated efforts of local vigilante groups, community youths, and residents of neighbouring villages.
Commending the swift intervention that led to the successful rescue operation, the federal lawmaker stressed the importance of community-based security initiatives. He warned that increasing incidents of kidnapping and attacks in parts of the country require greater vigilance from local populations, while urging governments at all levels to intensify efforts toward safeguarding citizens.
Aguocha also expressed opposition to the Federal Government’s cross-appeal in the ongoing legal proceedings involving Nnamdi Kanu. According to him, the move seeking a harsher punishment than previously pursued raises concerns about justice and national reconciliation.
He argued that the development could further deepen divisions at a time when dialogue, healing, and peaceful resolution of disputes should be prioritised. The lawmaker called on traditional rulers and stakeholders within the constituency to support efforts aimed at ensuring fairness and due process in the case.
Aguocha maintained that lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, reconciliation, and respect for the rule of law, rather than measures that may heighten tensions across the region.
