Kano State Government has banned the Queen Primer, Basic Science for Junior Secondary School, and other books over the inclusion of inappropriate sexually explicit content supposedly harmful to students.

This was made known in a statement signed by Hamisu Muhammad, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics for the Special Adviser to the Governor on Private and Voluntary Institutions in the state on Thursday, 5th October 2023.
It also included Active Basic Science, Basic Science and Technology for Junior Secondary Schools, New Concept English for Senior Secondary Schools, and Basic Social Studies for Primary Schools.
The statement revealed that the listed books have inappropriate content that is harmful to the morals of young students.

It reminded the public that educators are not only charged to teach but also to nurture the morals of students entrusted in their care.
Meanwhile, some netizens have reacted to the ban on books, while some are in support, others are questioning the rationale behind the ban.
