Police Nab Four Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Locally Made Firearms

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers in separate operations and recovered locally fabricated firearms and other exhibits.

According to a press release issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests were made between 15th and 17th September 2025 across different parts of the state.

On 17th September at about 11:40 p.m., operatives from Ikirike Division and the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Okechukwu Anthony, along Agbani Road while attempting to rob a man of his smart wristwatch. A locally made pistol, designed to resemble a Beretta but lacking a magazine or ammunition, was recovered from him.

Earlier that same day, around 3:15 p.m., operatives of the 9th Mile Division responded to a tip-off about an ongoing armed robbery along Uzo-Nwa Money, Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area.

Although one suspect escaped, police, assisted by vigilant residents, apprehended two suspects: 36-year-old Chukwudi Stephen Ngwu and 23-year-old Chibuike Ohaekelem. A similar locally fabricated pistol and a bag of rice were recovered. Investigations revealed the suspects had posed as passengers in a tricycle before attacking the rider.

In a separate incident on 15th September at about 4:10 a.m., operatives from Ogui Division arrested Oluchukwu Stanley (29) with the help of residents after he allegedly scaled the fence of a compound in Ogui-Nike, Enugu, and attempted to rob a resident of his mobile phone. He was overpowered after the victim raised the alarm, and a locally made pistol was found in his possession.

The Police Command stated that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

Commending his officers, Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa reiterated the command’s resolve to rid Enugu State of criminal elements. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

“The safety of the public remains our top priority,” CP Giwa said. “We will not relent in our efforts to ensure peace and security across Enugu State.”
