How Bolt Drivers Adjust App to Scam Passengers – Passenger Laments

A Facebook User has lamented on how bolt drivers hike prices on their applications to scam intending passengers.

She said that on such occasions they readjust the price on the app to show a higher price than what the passenger settled for so to make more money off the passenger.

She lamented on the dangers done to the business and how people will easily distrust such company due to the negligence of their drivers.

It’s Tuesday call out/orientation. And cos I need to let you know to be careful too.

So on Sunday evening I requested for a ride on bolt and the driver by name Emmanuel arrived. The ride showed 700 Naira to destination but the driver insisted I pay him more because l had a luggage which I refused to do so. Well after meaningful and polite dialogue, he agreed but asked how much the fare was as he can’t access it until he gets to the location. Well I knew what he’s thinking and I told him that I can’t remember but it’s not more than 1000.

So he started the ride or so I thought but the funny is, on my own app, it’s still showing that the driver is here but the trip hasn’t started as I’m suppose to see the map and the road is taking.

“l asked him if he has started the ride and he replied “Yes”. Well as we were going, I noticed he was driving with one hand and pressing his phone with the other trying to do something on the app as I was seated in the front seat with him. I let him do his thing then I immediately took a screenshot of the amount to be paid.”

“Let me digress a little, 2 weeks before the Sunday, I ordered a ride which showed 600 Naira, instead of the driver to take the shorter route on the app, he went and took a long one and the sun wasn’t smiling so I just chilled and enjoyed the AC after all the app has shown me a prize which I’m comfortable to pay before I confirmed. Well when I got to the destination, right in front of me as I was on call but still observant. The driver changed the price from 600 to 1000.

I told him that I wasn’t paying such cos the app has already told me 600. Guess what he did again he went to the app and adjusted it to 800 and in his words “since the app said 1000 and you said you it brought up 600 then I adjusted it to 800”

I asked him “oh it’s possible as a driver to hack the price? I mean he hacked the price and the price on my own app automatically changed to his new price and I was more than surprised that bolt could have such feature 🤷🙆 Haaaaaa…. Well I paid the 800 but at least I learnt a new one that day.

Igbo says agbisi gbaa otule ya amuru ako (when an ant bites the bum bum, it becomes careful) so back the the present driver, when we arrived at my destination and I asked him the price cos I already know what’s gonna happen.

Behold he said “1000” like WTF!!! so I smiled and gently told him that I’m not paying anything more than 700. Oga flared up and showed me the bill on his phone glaring at me. Well I have taken off my stuffs out and I knew his antics already.”

“Next he said if I’m not going to pay him the said amount, if not I should take back my money. He practically gave me back the money which I know he was trying to emotionally blackmail me based on I want to eat his sweat, is it cos he has arrived my destination that’s why I’m refusing to pay him.

See baa, sometimes you don’t have to shout or show yourself when you actually know the right thing and what to do. So I immediately collected my money back and told the security man to open the gate for him to go. Seeing that I was serious without raising my voice as his was already up 😅😅. He came down from the car to continue the blackmail😅😅😅

Well I told him that I have a screenshot of the ride when I requested and that I know what he did in the app that I won’t even budge for a second. Also if he leaves his money with me, I will give it to the beggars tomorrow.

He then asked for his money back which I have him and told him I’m surely going to write a review of it on the app and he responded while going out “thunder fire you and your review”

It’s not enough that you were trying to scam me but to also insult me even when I didn’t even raise voice when he was🤔

Y’all when I was settled to give the review, guess what? That’s when I realised that he actually went offline, cancelled my trip as client did not show then insist that I pay him 1000 then insult me too. Kaiii this life is something else.

Well, I hope #bolt knows that their driver’s manipulate prices by their own through the app which is not right.”

“This is also a business reputation which is being damaged due to rude character and manipulation.

No, it’s not my intention to take away someone’s job but the one you have should be guarded and your character should speak of it.
Yes, I know some clients/customers can be very difficult and annoying but as someone faced with such should know how to handle every situation and not be rude.”

“Also when you order a ride, pls make sure to take a screenshot of it before the driver arrives because once he manipulates the price, yours automatically changes too.

Have you ever had an experience with Bolt?

I hope #bolt knows of this and stop it too.

By the way, did you notice that the driver’s attire changed from the initial cooperate, looking cute and nice to just random casual this day? I just want to ask why is that?

Shouldn’t there also be a rating based on the dressing too? One has actually come to pick me in shorts (and it was really short)😅😅 imagine displaying his laps at work😂😂😂 ”

Many passengers have complained about the way some of the bolt and Uber drivers behave while some have cautioned the company to choose their drivers carefully.
