Abia Assembly Defies Rules, Elects First-Time Members as Speaker, Deputy Speaker
Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, member representing Aba South State Constituency had just been elected as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly on Wednesday.

Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, member representing Aba South State Constituency had just been elected as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly on Wednesday.
Rt. Hon. Emeruwa was elected by the member representing Aba Central Constituency Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu and was unopposed for the seat of the number three man in the State.
Also elected is the member representing Umuahia East State Constituency, Hon. Austin Okezie as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Despite the State Assembly rule of not electing first-time members as Speakers and Deputy Speakers, the House nominated and supported the first-time members who were elected under the aegis of the Labour Party.
