Two fighters of the Indigenous People of Biafra/ Eastern Security Network have been killed by the operatives of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and Operatives of the Department of State Services for terrorizing the Fuji Junction general area in Asaba, Delta state.
A statement by Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations on Tuesday disclosed that five others were also arrested following a distress call from the community who stated they were under attack on Monday 17th July 2023.
Following the swift response of the team, the fighters were engaged jn a gunfight which led to the demise of the two yet-to-be-identified suspects while the survivors fled to their hideout around Okpanam River.
“The gallant troops in pursuit of the fleeing criminal elements, successfully trailed them to their enclave in a house around Okpanam river, where they were nabbed. The troops also recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one Pump Action Semi-Automatic Rifle, 15 Live Cartridges, one AK 47 Rifle Magazine, and a Baofeng Radio Receiver.”
Lauding the effort of the troop, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja urged them to sustain the synergy and restore peace and tranquility in the region.
