Press Release
Subject: Urgent Condemnation of Kidnapping and Assassination Attempts on NDC Leaders in Port Harcourt
The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) is outraged and deeply alarmed by the recent kidnapping of our Founding National Chairman, Amanyie King, alongside other Congress members. This despicable act has been perpetrated by security agents and thugs, spearheaded by Ezebunwo Ichemati, Caretaker Chairman of PHALGA LGA, and Ehie Edison, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor.
Additionally, we are outraged to report that our current President, Saatah Nubari, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt while organizing and participating in the End Bad Governance protests in Rivers State, further highlighting the grave threat faced by our leadership and members.
This coordinated assault on the NDC is a direct attack on the people of the Niger Delta. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of our kidnapped leaders and call for a full investigation into these heinous actions. The silence of the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara on this issue going forward, will be seen as tacit approval.
The NDC will not stand idly by as our rights and safety are threatened.
We stand resolute in our commitment to fight against this tyranny and repression. We urge all citizens, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders to join us in denouncing these acts of violence and intimidation.
Let it be clear: the NDC will not be silenced.
We will persist in our mission to uphold democracy and advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta people, undeterred by these attempts to instill fear.
Mudiaga Ogboru,
National Spokesperson, NDC
