Ekiti Governor Approves Payment of Over N3.5 Billion for 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Intervention Projects

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has approved N3,554,642,584.46 as counterpart funding for the 2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) intervention projects. This comes shortly after the commencement of the 2023 UBEC/SUBEB projects, marked by the opening of bids last week Tuesday.

The Executive Chairman of Ekiti SUBEB, Prof Femi Akinwumi, disclosed this in a statement, highlighting the state’s commitment to creating an improved learning environment for public primary schools statewide.

According to him, Governor Oyebanji, in the past two years, has consistently funded UBEC/SUBEB projects by matching the 2022 and 2023 grants, which has facilitated sustained government intervention in the basic education sector.

Prof. Akinwumi further highlighted key achievements under the Oyebanji administration, including the procurement and distribution of instructional materials, employment of additional teaching and non-teaching staff, construction and renovation of classrooms, training and retraining of educators, and provision of ICT equipment for public schools.

Expressing confidence in the timely delivery of projects, Prof. Akinwumi emphasised the board’s commitment to expediting the execution of the 2024 projects and he encouraged teachers and education stakeholders to demonstrate increased diligence in their duties, ensuring that the state government’s significant investment in education yields meaningful results.
