The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Kukah has condemned the killing of the 200 level student of Home Economics in Shehu Shagari College of Education, Miss Deborah Samuel Yakubu, in Sokoto State.

Bishop Kukah called on the Christian community to remain calm and law-abiding while charging the government to bring perpetrators of the act to the full extent of the law.

The deceased Miss Deborah’s life was threatened and she was eventually beaten and burnt on Thursday after making a voice note which she shared on her class group WhatsApp advising them to share contents related to their course and not any other thing.

In a loose translation, she said, “This group chat was not created for you to be sending nonsense. It is for past questions, updates about tests or other school matters. Not for nonsense or some rubbish prophet.”
The mob who attacked her bragged on a video circulated that she was killed for her blasphemous comments on the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
It was gathered that two suspects have been arrested by the police.
