The Senate has approved a six-month emergency rule as proclaimed by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State, along with the removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu.

The Senate took this decision after going into a closed-door meeting neglecting the procedures that should be taken before a State of Emergency can be declared in a State.

The Senate resolved that President Tinubu should review or terminate the state of emergency within six months.
The Senate also passed a resolution granting authority to establish an ad hoc committee composed of members from both chambers to oversee developments in Rivers State.
Additionally, the Senate has resolved to form a committee of distinguished Nigerians to facilitate reconciliation among parties in Rivers State during the period of emergency.
At the plenary session on Wednesday, it was reported that Tinubu’s allies were struggling to get the two-thirds to vote for the proclamation of the President.
