The House of Representatives has approved the declaration by President Bola Tinubu of a six-month State of Emergency in Rivers State along with the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu, including the State House of Assembly.

In a voice count during the plenary session on Thursday, 243 lawmakers agreed to the proclamation by the President with none rejecting it according the voice count.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, declined to conduct a head count but stated that the register would be utilized.
“I want the house to note that today’s plenary is being attended by 243 members based on our attendance register. Just for the record, we’re more than satisfied with the requirement for this particular amendment.” – Speaker says as the House adjourns until next Tuesday.
Many notable personalities have condemned the proclamation, stating that section 305 of the 1999 Constitution does not give the President the right to remove an elected Governor and Deputy in the State and called for a reversal of the proclamation.
