Debt Under Tinubu Alarming, We Must Reject and Say No to Reckless Borrowing – Otunba Babatunde Olushola Senbanjo
By Otunba Babatunde Olushola Senbanjo (BOS)

Fellow Nigerians, it is with deep concern that I raise my voice on the issue of our nation’s growing debt burden under the current administration. Today, the figures are not just numbers on paper they represent a heavy chain placed upon the shoulders of every citizen, especially the youth and generations yet unborn.
Nigeria is blessed with abundant human and natural resources. We have the potential to be a thriving economy and a model of growth in Africa, yet reckless borrowing has put our future at risk. Each loan taken without a clear repayment plan, without tangible results, and without transparent accountability, only mortgages the destiny of millions. It is heartbreaking to see resources that should be invested in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and job creation being swallowed up by debt servicing.
Let it be known that borrowing itself is not *evil* but borrowing recklessly, without discipline, without a solid economic framework, and without ensuring productivity, is disastrous. We cannot continue to accumulate debts that do not translate into real development. Roads remain bad, electricity remains epileptic, industries are shutting down, and unemployment is at an all-time high yet the debts keep piling. Where are the results of these loans? Who truly benefits from them?
Nigeria cannot grow if we continue down this dangerous path. We must chart a new course, one that focuses on innovation, productivity, industrialisation, and the empowerment of our people. We must block the leakages of corruption, reduce wastage, diversify the economy, and create wealth from within rather than piling up loans from outside.
My fellow Nigerians, the debt crisis is not just a political issue it is a matter of survival. If we do not stand against reckless borrowing today, we will wake up tomorrow to a country so enslaved by debt that freedom and prosperity will only be a dream.
This is why I call on every well-meaning Nigerian to reject policies of reckless borrowing and demand accountability. The path to greatness is not in endless loans, but in discipline, vision, and true leadership. Nigeria deserves better. Our children deserve better. The time to act is now.
Let us say no to reckless borrowing! Let us build a Nigeria that thrives on creativity, productivity, and self-reliance. That is the only way to secure a better tomorrow.
