Atiku Visits El-Rufai, Alleges Plot to Undermine ADC
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a solidarity visit to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai following what he described as a failed attempt by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to arrest him at an airport upon his return to Nigeria.

In a message to El-Rufai, Atiku vowed that he and other stakeholders would “stand by you and protect your interest and the interest of law-abiding Nigerians, particularly” the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He alleged that similar tactics previously used to “undermine and sabotage” the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are now being deployed against the ADC through the judiciary.
“You have been a Minister and a Governor with high performance, there was no reason to embarrass you like that and we condemn it in totality. We will stand by you and protect your interests, as well as those of law-abiding Nigerians, particularly the ADC. Just like they undermine and sabotage the PDP, there are also efforts to undermine the ADC using the Judiciary. We must be alert and must stand up against that plan to undermine the opposition. This is very credible information so we should all be alert and make sure that the Judiciary is not used to undermine the ADC. We must all unite and stand up to the Anti-Democratic Forces.”

In response, Mallam El-Rufai thanked Mr Abubakar stating that he has always shown care and mentioned that this is the second time he has been in his house in six months on different issues with the latest being the fracas at the Airport.
“This visit further shows the consistency for which I’ll be eternally grateful. Your Excellency what happened at the Airport was unnecessary and probably criminal because agencies have rules of engagement and all I asked for is they give me a letter of invitation and I’ll visit their office. It turned out that it was the ICPC that procured the DSS to abduct me and handover to them. The ICPC has never contacted me to invite me up to the point at the airport. The EFCC wrote to invite me but I was out of the country and my lawyer responded and told them I’ll be there on Monday at 10 am. But no invitation from ICPC and the ICPC Chairman was acting on the orders of the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. We have reduced Security agencies to be arms of political parties and governments that know it is unelectable and want to remain in power at all costs. What has happened today has reinforced me that we must work hard between now and March 2027 to remove this tyrant.”
On Wednesday, there was an attempt to arrest Mallam El-Rufai by the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, but he demanded a formal invitation from them. When they didn’t succeed, they snatched his passport.
