Ndume: Tinubu Must Act Against ‘Kakistocrats’ Dominating Presidency

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South in the National Assembly, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action against what he described as “kakistocrats” dominating his administration.

Ndume, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the presence of incompetent officials around the President was responsible for some of the controversies, policy embarrassments and administrative lapses associated with the government.

He alleged that Nigeria had “fake agencies” operating with offices and maintained that many of the problems confronting the administration could have been avoided if the President were surrounded by more capable hands.

“It is now a known thing that Nigeria has fake agencies that operate with offices. If the President had capable hands, all this mess and embarrassment wouldn’t be happening,” Ndume said.

The senator called on Tinubu to address the situation, warning that the individuals who are unfit to occupy positions of authority could continue to undermine the administration if left unchecked.

Ndume also weighed in on the organisation of the 2027 presidential campaign, arguing that President Tinubu should not personally serve as chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council.

According to him, governors should take charge of the presidential campaign in their respective states, while a coordinating team should be established at the national level to harmonise their activities.

“The President doesn’t need to be the Presidential Campaign Council chairman,” Ndume said.

“The governors of every state should head the presidential campaign in their state, and there should be a coordinating team to coordinate them.”

Despite his criticisms, Ndume expressed confidence that the APC would perform strongly in the 2027 elections, arguing that the opposition had yet to demonstrate that it could provide a better alternative.

“We will get it right because the opposition has not shown that they can do better,” he said.
