Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has approved a one Grade Level Command Promotion to all workers in Abia State Local Government System with effect from April 2023.
Governor Ikpeazu broke the cheering news while meeting with the workers in Local Government Service at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia. He said his relationship with the workers in the State has remained cordial recalling that he has gone through several challenges in the State, including Operation Pyton Dance, Covid-19 pandemic together with the workers and declared that he was happy that thus far the Lord has helped the State under his administration.
Governor Ikpeazu appealed to the workers to vote massively for the PDP Governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe and assured that, if voted in, Chief Ahiwe would do better than him. He added that whatever welfare package that is outstanding in the Local Government Councils would be settled by the new administration of Chief Okey Ahiwe and counseled them against making the mistake of voting any other person other than Chief Okay Ahiwe.
The Governor , who stated that no person in the State made more sacrifices for Mr. Peter Obi than himself at the last election, though without regrets said that Chief Okey Ahiwe is trust worthy and most fitting for the position.
He thanked National Union of Local Government Employees for the national award givento him by the national body recently based on his relationship with them and the fact that Abia was one of the States that supported full Local Government Autonomy
Also, speaking, the PDP Governorship candidate in the State, Chief Okey Ahiwe assured that he would implement the new Command Promotion pronounced by the Governor as well as sustain the cordial relationship existing between Government and workers. He also promised to ensure prompt payment of salaries and other emoluments.
Responding, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commision, Chief Victor Azumara and the NULGE State President, Comrade Ikechi Nwaigwe Ikechi Kennedy thanked the Governor for approving a one salary grade level promotion for the Local Government workers and assured that they would vote overwhelmingly for Chief Okey Ahiwe
The meeting attracted many diginitaries including the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, the Head of Service, Sir Onyii Wamah , Commisioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu, amongst others.
