Abia Torch of Unity Sports Fiesta Flags Off with Visits to Two Tertiary Institutions

The 2025 Abia State Tertiary Institutions Sports Fiesta officially commenced on Thursday, 13 November 2025, with the ceremonial movement of the Torch of Unity and Peace to two higher institutions in Abia State.

The delegation was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tertiary Education and Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Dr Emeka Enyiazu, alongside the state’s Director of Sports, Mr Obioma George.

As part of activities marking the kickoff of the fiesta, the team visited Nigeria British University, Asa in Ukwa West, and Rhema University, Aba, where they were received by management, staff, and enthusiastic students.

Dr Enyiazu reiterated that the Torch of Unity symbolises harmony, sportsmanship, and the strengthening of ties among institutions across the state. He noted that the sports fiesta aims to promote youth development, peace, and healthy competition.

MMrGeorge described the visit as the beginning of an exciting sporting season that will showcase the talents of students while fostering unity across campuses.

The Torch of Unity will continue its tour across tertiary institutions ahead of the main sporting events, scheduled to commence from November 25 to 29 2025.
