Obi Condemns Barbaric Assault on Corps Member in Anambra
Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has expressed deep outrage and sorrow over the reported inhumane treatment of a young lady in Anambra, describing the incident as “primitive wickedness and savagery.”

“As an Anambrian myself, I feel not only ashamed but also deeply heartbroken that such cruelty could happen in 2025, in a society that ought to have advanced beyond such barbarous acts.”
Speaking, Obi said he was heartbroken and ashamed that such an incident could occur in 2025, in a society that should have long outgrown such brutality.
“No society should ever tolerate the abuse, humiliation, and dehumanisation of its citizens, least of all the vulnerable and women.”
He emphasised that the act was not just a crime against an individual but an assault on collective humanity, adding, “That young girl could have been anyone’s daughter, sister, or even mine.”
Obi called on authorities to ensure that those responsible are swiftly apprehended, prosecuted, and made examples of, to serve as a deterrent to others. He further urged Nigerians to work together to build a society grounded in justice, compassion, and the protection of human dignity.
“Our humanity must always come first,” he concluded. “Without it, we are nothing but a people adrift in cruelty.”
A viral video showed members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group in Anambra State stripping, beating and harassing a female member of the National Youth Service Corps, an act which has sparked widespread condemnation.
The Anambra State Police Command has said that the case is being stalled following the unavailability of the young female Corper Jennifer Edema Elohor to share her account of the abuse.
However, many people have told them to start the investigation following the video seen online.
