2027: Abia Women Back Nwaogu, Urge APC to Grant Ticket

A socio-political women organization, Nzuko Umuada Abia, has lauded the sterling leadership qualities of Senator Nkechi Nwaogu.

Nwaogu was a former member of the national assembly and also an erstwhile Pro-chancellor and chairman, Governing council of University of Calabar, Cross River state.

Nzuko Umuada Abia, whose membership is drawn from six local government areas that formed Abia central senatorial district of Abia State, in a statement on Thursday, hailed Senator Nwaogu’s resilience and commitment to nation-building.

The statement by the women group, was signed by the President, Lady Catherine Nwanoruo, and Secretary, Nancy Nzomuche.

While noting that Senator Nwaogu’s invaluable contributions towards deepening democracy in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, Nzuko Umuada Abia also noted that the former parliamentarian has remained unwavering in her pursuit of gender equality in the country.

The southeast women organization recalled Senator Nwaogu’s effective representation of Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo federal constituency and the Abia central senatorial district as then member of the two chambers of the national assembly.

While she was at the house of representatives and the Senate respectively, Nzuko Umuada Abia further noted that Senator Nkechi Nwaogu initiated and made impactful laws that engendered youth, men and women empowerment, and democratic process.

“Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, on exit from the Nigerian legislative chambers, continue to prioritize human empowerments across Abia state and the larger Nigeria, which saw many people from Abia central district and beyond cared for,”the group stated.

Nzuko Umuada Abia described as a welcome development, the recent decision by Nwaogu to return to the Nigerian Senate in 2027, reaffirming their confidences in Senator Nkechi Nwaogu’s ability and capacity to replicate same legislative strides achieved during her previous representation of Abia central zone in the national assembly.

The Abia women group pledged to rally maximum support and bulk votes for the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nwaogu, to emerge victorious in party primary election, and the main poll in 2027.

Nzuko Umuada Abia therefore used the medium to call on the leadership of the APC in Abia state to cede its Abia central senatorial seat ticket to Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, whom they described as a woman of enormous capacities, and the best brain for the plum legislative job.

The Abia women further urged every eligible Nigerian citizens to participate in the ongoing nationwide voters registration exercise by the Independent national electoral commission, so as to enable them exercise their franchise in next year’s general election in the country.

According to the socio-ethnic women body, “The citizenry should ensure it register and collect their permanent voters cards (PVC), because, it is the only weapon and power vested on citizens by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to effect a change in government, and vote in credible people to mount leadership saddle in all levels in the country”.
