APC Condemns Governor Makinde Over Alleged Incitement
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde of inciting violence during the National Opposition Summit in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

In a statement released and signed by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary, the ruling party alleged that Makinde referenced the violent “Operation Wetie” period in Nigeria’s political history to stir unrest, describing his remarks as “reckless” and a threat to national peace and security.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) categorically condemns Governor Makinde’s incitement as reckless, and a clear and present threat to peace and national security. It is particularly disturbing for a sitting Governor who bears constitutional responsibility as the Chief Security Officer of his state to conjure up one of the darkest episodes of political violence in Nigeria’s history to threaten violence against the people and government of Nigeria. By his incitement to violence, Makinde has shown himself to be unworthy of the high office of Governor that he occupies.”
The APC argued that such rhetoric was inappropriate for a sitting governor, who also serves as the Chief Security Officer of his state.
Beyond the criticism of Makinde, the APC dismissed claims by opposition figures about Nigeria drifting toward a one-party state.
According to the statement, opposition groups are grappling with internal crises of their own making, including leadership disputes, factional divisions, and disregard for democratic processes.
“The APC, again, vehemently rejects attempts by confused opposition leaders to frame their internal shambles in alarmist narratives about so-called one-party domination. The opposition parties are victims of self-inflicted injuries arising from anti-democratic practices, miserably poor leadership, internal contradictions, utter disregard for due process and the rule of law, persistent factionalization, and the desperate and dissonant presidential ambitions of their leaders.”
The APC specifically pointed to challenges within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing its struggles to the actions of Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 presidential primaries, which it claimed violated the party’s zoning principles.
It also criticised the Labour Party (LP), alleging instability linked to its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Additionally, the APC described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as ineffective, blaming opposition figures for undermining its leadership structure.
It urged opposition parties to address their internal issues rather than attribute their challenges to external political dominance.
