The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kano, Alhaji Ladan Baba, says the one-year national service will be repeated by nine members of the 2018 Batch A corps. The coordinator said this in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) on the passing of 2,682 members of the Batch A corps in Kano on Thursday. According to him, members of the corps left their places of primary assignments for more than three months. Baba added: “These members of the corps will definitely repeat their year of service to get rid of their primary assignment places and it is either they will not be paid or half of the allowance will be paid.”
He added that by extending their passage from one to three months without pay, 21 of the members of the corps would also be punished. The coordinator revealed that two members of the body lost their lives during the service year due to natural causes. A committee is currently working to reward some of the members of the body who excelled in their primary assignment places during the service year and contribute to their host communities, according to Baba. “I would like to commend all state security agencies for ensuring the safety of the members of the corps during the presidential, national, governorship and state assembly elections.
“Also, I commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring free, fair and credible election in the state, but am calling on them to pay the corps members as they promised to do so before their passing out,” he said.
According to him, the corps members have done very well during the elections, attributing the success to the training given to them in camp and later by INEC.
