The Academic Staff Union of the University, ASUU, embarked on a protest on Tuesday over the half-salary payment made to them by the Federal Government of Nigeria in October, this year.

In a circular to its members in different institutions last week, the ASUU chairman mandated them to select a day to protest over the mistreatment of lecturers by the Buhari-led administration.
The Union also declared lecture-free days in its branches across the country to draw plight to their situation.
A few weeks ago, ASUU raised an alarm that the federal government has turned University lecturers into casual workers by paying them a half salary.
In its response, the FG stated that the lecturers were paid on the number of days the lecturers worked following its ‘no-work-no-pay’ policy after suspending its eight months strikes on October 14.
