There’s a low voter turnout at the ongoing Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections in Abia State despite encouragement and safety assurance by the gubernatorial candidates in all the political parties.
Unlike the 25th of February Presidential Elections where the electorates arrived at their polling units before the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the 18th of March elections are marred with low voter turnout in Abia State.
The Community Hall Ahiaeke, Ahiaeke Primary and Secondary School, Community Hall Ofeke where Newsleverage visited, were met with INEC staff sitting idly while waiting for electorates.
Speaking with an INEC official at the Community Hall, Ahaieke, stated that a lot of planning was done to correct the mistake of the Presidential and National Assembly Election and effectively carry out their duty, and allow Nigerians to exercise their franchise.
However, a resident who wanted to remain anonymous lamented that the aftermath of the Presidential and National Assembly elections left a sour taste so he opted out of the elections today.
Meanwhile, a Presiding officer revealed that the results of polling units will not be transmitted electronically despite the assurance by the Commission.
