Troops from the 1 Brigade, as part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, collaborated with the Operation Forest Yinzuya (OPFY) Multi-Sector Task Force (MST) and Hybrid Forces to conduct a coordinated offensive operation in the Yankuzo area of Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
This operation targeted several terrorist hideouts in the Asola Hills, following weeks of intelligence gathering about their activities in the region.
According to intelligence sources, upon reaching the area, the troops deployed heavy artillery fire, followed by close air support, which allowed them to advance toward the Asola Hills.
During the operation, the troops encountered heavily armed terrorists, engaging in a fierce battle that resulted in the death of several militants. Some terrorists managed to retreat northward on motorcycles.
The combined forces, with support from airstrikes, pursued the fleeing terrorists and destroyed their camps and life-support structures located at the foot of Asola Hills.
A military source stated that an unspecified number of terrorists were neutralized during the operation, while others were targeted in airstrikes as they attempted to escape with cattle. Ground troops also recovered three motorcycles that had been abandoned by the terrorists.
The operation concluded at 4:45 p.m. and was described as successful, with troops safely returning to base following a thorough debriefing.
This offensive is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle terrorist networks in Zamfara State and restore peace to the region.
