Comedian AcaPella Fires Back at Sowore Over Claims About Obi Collaborating with Abacha

Popular comedian Bennet Chinedu Daniel, known as Acapella, has publicly countered activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore over claims that Labour Party’s Peter Obi collaborated with the Sani Abacha regime in the 1990s.

In a response posted online, Acapella described Sowore as a “lying unrepentant wanna-be hero,” rejecting claims that Obi ever worked for the infamous Abacha government.

“First off, Peter never worked for the Abacha government,” Acapella wrote. “He only helped decongest the port after businessmen met with Abacha over delays at the port. Obi gave ideas, received no salary, and was never an official appointee.”

He described the narrative of Obi’s collaboration with the military dictator as “stale” and insisted it should no longer be given attention.

Acapella also took a swipe at Sowore’s political history, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to judge others, particularly in light of his past support for Muhammadu Buhari.

“Before I forget,” he continued, “the mere fact that you were the chief propagandist in bringing that disaster Buhari into power in 2015 means you have no moral ground to point fingers at who is corrupt and who isn’t.”

The fiery rebuttal came in response to a post by Sowore in which the Sahara Reporters owner distanced himself from various political figures and administrations, including Peter Obi.

Sowore wrote: “I did not join Peter Obi at the Tin Can Ports while he cleared goods for Sani Abacha when the same Abacha was dismantling Nigeria brick by brick.”

He also took aim at other high-profile politicians including Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, and Nasir El-Rufai, accusing them of involvement in corruption, human rights abuses, and betrayal of democratic ideals.

Sowore concluded his statement with a declaration of loyalty: “I have only one allegiance: to the oppressed, the disenfranchised, the cheated, the silenced… Nigeria must be free from these evildoers.”

Sowore’s unlimited criticism comes following the unveiling of the coalition movement under the aegis of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Wednesday at the Yar’Dua centre, Abuja, which exempted him considering his run as the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress.
