Eze Aro Unveils Bold Vision for Arochukwu’s Renaissance, Declares Kingdom Open for Investment at Second Coronation Anniversary
His Eminence, Eze Dr Eberechukwu Oji Eze Aro IX, has unveiled an ambitious blueprint to transform Arochukwu Kingdom into a leading economic, cultural, educational, and tourism hub in Nigeria, declaring that the ancient kingdom is “open for business.”

He made the declaration during his Second Coronation Anniversary, which was held at Civic Centre, Oror Arochukwu, while delivering his State of the Kingdom address titled “A Kingdom Repositioned, A Greatness Reawakened.”
Addressing a gathering of government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry, members of the diplomatic community, clergy, and Aro sons and daughters from across the world, Eze Aro reflected on his two years on the throne, describing his reign as a covenant to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition Arochukwu for greater relevance in the modern world while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
He said the journey of the past 24 months had been anchored on three key pillars: unity, rebuilding, and laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.
Eze Eberechukwu Oji stated that his administration has successfully reunited Aro people across the kingdom and the diaspora while promoting peace with neighbouring communities through dialogue and collaboration with government and fellow traditional rulers.
“Peace is the first capital of development. Without it, no investor will venture into this zone. No road will fulfil its purpose. No school will realise its potential,” he said.
According to the monarch, lasting peace will unlock opportunities presented by the proposed Arochukwu Trade Zone, the joint economic corridor linking Abia, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, as well as the national gas pipeline expected to pass through the kingdom.
On cultural preservation, Eze Aro announced the expansion of the Ikeji Aro Festival, describing it as the origin of the Igbo New Year celebration. He also disclosed that work is underway on the redevelopment of Amaikpe Square and the establishment of the Centre for Aro History and Cultural Renaissance to preserve the kingdom’s history and identity for future generations.
He noted that the Eze Aro institution has also gained greater national prominence, with the throne now playing a significant role in national traditional leadership discussions.
The monarch highlighted youth empowerment as one of the greatest achievements of his administration, revealing that more than 1,500 youths have benefited from the Eze Aro Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Programme, focusing on digital technology, ICT, artificial intelligence and vocational training.
He commended Governor Alex Otti for supporting infrastructure development at the Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu (ASCETA) and for constructing the access road to the Goldie Theological Institute, while expressing optimism that the kingdom would soon benefit from the state’s Smart School initiative.
On healthcare, Eze Aro disclosed that over 2,000 residents have benefited from the kingdom’s medical outreach programmes and applauded the ongoing upgrade of the Arochukwu General Hospital, describing it as a major step toward quality healthcare delivery.
The monarch also praised the efforts of security agencies and the Arochukwu Kingdom Neighbourhood Watch, noting that the kingdom has maintained its reputation as one of the safest communities in Nigeria through effective collaboration and community policing.
Reviewing major infrastructure projects, the royal father recalled launching Operation Light Up Arochukwu during his coronation, saying solar streetlights now illuminate many roads and communities across the kingdom.
He further revealed that the Abia State Government, in partnership with private investors, is working to complete the abandoned Arochukwu electricity substation, a project expected to provide reliable power supply for commercial and industrial growth.
Eze Aro disclosed that the newly inaugurated Arochukwu Business Leaders Forum (ABLF) has begun driving initiatives aimed at attracting local and international investment into the kingdom.
According to him, he has personally led investment engagements with organisations including the Dangote Group, Alaro City, Digital Realty, Nestoil Group, and the Afro-Asian Group, among others, to position Arochukwu as a preferred investment destination.
“As the responses continue to come in, we will soon witness a boom in economic activities and industrialisation in Arochukwu,” he said.
The monarch also announced the reconstruction of the historic Mary Slessor Library, built in 1932, with plans to commission the facility during this year’s Ikeji Festival.
He further unveiled plans to establish the Arochukwu Innovation Hub, a state-of-the-art digital and artificial intelligence centre designed to prepare young people for opportunities in the global digital economy.
As part of his long-term development agenda, Eze Aro announced plans to develop a film village in honour of the late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, describing the project as a tribute to one of Arochukwu’s illustrious sons whose accomplishments should inspire future generations.
He also outlined the Aro Renaissance Prosperity Agenda, which includes the completion of the Arochukwu Development Master Plan (Aro Depth 2050), the launch of an Aro National Database, quarterly town hall meetings, investment in limestone mining, gas utilisation, manufacturing, tourism development, and the transformation of attractions such as the Long Juju Caves, 79 Steps, Aro Waterfalls, and the proposed Aro Museum into world-class tourism destinations.
Calling on Aro sons and daughters in the diaspora to return home with their investments, expertise, and global networks, the monarch declared that “Arochukwu is open for business.”
He urged young people to acquire the skills needed to benefit from the kingdom’s emerging economic opportunities, while assuring women entrepreneurs and business owners that they would be among the first beneficiaries of planned SME and cooperative funding schemes.
Reflecting on the kingdom’s progress, Eze Aro declared that the foundation for Arochukwu’s transformation had been firmly laid.
“Power is coming. Roads are being completed. Security is in place. Investors are knocking at our door. Arochukwu is on the rise. But we must rise together,” he said.
Quoting Ecclesiastes 11:6, the monarch encouraged his people to continue sowing seeds of peace, education, enterprise and unity, expressing confidence that God would bless their collective efforts.
As a major highlight of the ceremony, Eze Aro announced that the third coronation anniversary in July 2027 will be celebrated as the Grand Homecoming, inviting Aro sons and daughters and friends of the kingdom from around the world to return home and celebrate the kingdom’s continuing renaissance.
He prayed for God’s blessings upon Arochukwu Kingdom, Governor Alex Otti, development partners, and everyone working toward the peace, unity, and prosperity of the ancient kingdom.
