Abia Govt Raises Alarm Over Fraudulent PVC Data Collection Scheme Targeting Rural Voters
The Abia State Government has issued a stern warning to the public over a fraudulent scheme by some politicians and their agents who are reportedly collecting information from Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) of rural dwellers in exchange for N10,000.

The scheme falsely promises the creation of an “e-wallet” for empowerment but is actually aimed at compromising voters’ eligibility for the 2027 elections.
In a statement by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, on July 7, 2025, the government clarified that genuine empowerment initiatives, such as the Abia State Interest Free Loan Empowerment Scheme, the Abia Techrise Project, and agricultural training programs, are carried out without politicization or any demands for personal information.
The government condemned the fraudulent activities as criminal and irresponsible, warning that anyone caught, regardless of status, will face severe consequences. Citizens, particularly in rural areas, are urged to reject any offers requesting their PVC details or other personal data that could disenfranchise or endanger them.
It urged Abians to remain vigilant and protect their voting rights against such deceptive practices.
