The Imo State House Of Assembly has refuted a report that its Mace was missing.
The Chairman, House Committee on information and Judiciary, Dominic Ezerioha made the rebuttal describing the report as the height of malice against the assembly.
Ezerioha told newsmen in his office that it was wrong of any group to insinuate that the mace of Imo state House of Assembly was taken to Edo state House of Assembly for any reason.
He made it clear that the mace was safe and intact in its sacred place of the legislature, under the custody of the speaker, who is empowered by the constitution to take custody of it.
He said the rumor was a fabricated falsehood by enemies of the state, with the singular aim of destabilizing the government.
“Very soon, we will unmask the people behind this wicked and malicious rumor”, he said.
The House spokesman reemphasized that the Mace of any House of Assembly is kept in a sacred place for the legislature, where it cannot be seen by unauthorized persons.
He said the Sergeant at- Arms is the only person constitutionally empowered to move the Mace before the Speaker to plenary and back to its sacred place after plenary.
“The Mace of any House of Assembly can only be seen in public during plenary, and after plenary, you will never see the Mace, Ezerioha informed.
