The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a newborn baby who was abandoned by its mother in a gutter on 3rd October 2020 in Anambra State.
It was gathered that a good Samaritan resident at Abuja Estates behind Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps office Awka reported at B Division Police Station Awka in the morning that a day old baby boy was wrapped up in a cloth and abandoned.
This was made known by the Anambra State Police Public Relation Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed who stated that all efforts made to trace the mother of the baby proved abortive.
Police operatives attached to the Joint Welfare Centre visited the scene and the baby was handed over to “Time to fort Care specialist medical centre Awka” for safekeeping.
“Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Welfare for children and women affairs was contacted and the baby will be handed over to the Social Welfare department for proper care while effort is ongoing to trace the mother in order to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
