The Commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Urban Planning, Dr. Chidi Onwuchuruba, has commissioned the second earth-moving machine (Excavator) procured by the Aba North Town Planning Authority.
Speaking while performing the function at Aba North Town Planning Authority, Ikot-Ekpene Road, Aba on Wednesday April 26, 2023, Dr. Onwuchuruba commended the Executive Secretary of the Authority, Mrs. Chinwe Constance Ekwuribe and her staff for their commitment and cooperation in actualizing the project while urging them to put the machine into good use.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Deacon Bestman Aaron, who noted that Abia is the only State across South East that its Town Planning Authorities have been able to procure earth moving machines, also extolled Mrs. Ekwuribe for her foresightedness, doggedness, determination, and commitment towards purchasing the heavy duty machines despite the paucity of funds of the Authority.
In her address earlier, the Executive Secretary, Aba North Town Planning Authority, Mrs, Chinwe Constance Ekwuribe, disclosed that before now, the Authority has since its creation been handling issues of physical planning and development control activities without adequate support cum necessary tools for effective operation and job delivery, and thanked her predecessors, particularly the immediate past Executive Secretary, for their efforts towards making the Authority what it is today.
Mrs. Ekwuribe also commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for giving attention to Physical Planning through the engagement of UN-Habitat to handle the ongoing Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia structure which would serve as a great tool to the physical and economic development of the State.
The Executive Secretary enumerated some of the challenges of the Authority, including the involvement of Aba North Town Planning Authority in Urban Renewal Programme in Aba to avoid unprofessional activities, provision of adequate security for the development control staff of the Authority, adequate government support in Town Planning activities, compliance by the citizens especially the political class towards registration of their properties for effective data capturing and proper planning, financial and technical support from government, among others. She promised that the Authority would continue to live up to it’s core mandates.
In a vote of thanks, the immediate past Executive Secretary of Aba North Town Planning Authority, Mr, Charles Ezerah, thanked the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Dr. Chidi Onwuchuruba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Deacon Bestman Aaron and staff off Aba North Town Planning Authority for being strong pillars of support to the Authority throughout the procurement processes.
Top Management staff of the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, as well as those of Aba North Town Planning Authority, were present during the event.
