Chijioke Edeoga, the former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Enugu State for the 2023 elections, has officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His decision to return to the party comes with a pledge of loyalty to Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership, which he praised for its inclusive and reconciliatory approach to politics.
Edeoga, accompanied by his supporters, arrived at the PDP state secretariat at noon on Monday and was warmly welcomed by the party’s leadership, including the State Chairman, Dr. Martins Chukwunweike. This event follows a private meeting he had with PDP leaders on January 31, marking a significant political development for Enugu State.
During his speech, Edeoga expressed deep appreciation for Governor Mbah and the entire state PDP leadership for facilitating his return. He described his move as a commitment to fostering unity and collaboration in the state’s political environment. “It is a pleasure to be back. I am grateful to Governor Mbah, whose leadership style has played a pivotal role in this reconciliation. His politics of inclusion is setting a new standard for our state,” Edeoga remarked.

He further emphasized that his return marked a shift away from divisive politics. “This is a new direction. We are no longer in a winner-takes-all system. True political accommodation is now at the forefront in Enugu,” he stated.
Dr. Chukwunweike, in his remarks, highlighted that Edeoga’s return would further strengthen the PDP, underscoring Governor Mbah’s focus on unity within the party. “Our primary responsibility as party leadership is to unite all factions. Governor Mbah’s vision for the party is clear, and today’s development represents a significant milestone. With this unity, the PDP is poised for an easy victory in the 2027 elections,” he said.
Barr. Obiora Obeagu, the Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, also welcomed Edeoga’s return, calling it a pivotal moment that reaffirms Governor Mbah’s leadership. He praised the governor for prioritizing development in Isi-Uzo, including the establishment of Smart Schools, healthcare facilities, and road infrastructure, despite opposition during the 2023 elections.
“This decision to return to the PDP confirms that we are united in our support for Governor Mbah’s inclusive governance and his development agenda for the state,” Obeagu said.
Edeoga’s return is expected to enhance party unity and cohesion in Enugu, laying a solid foundation for the PDP to present a united front as the state looks ahead to future elections.
