Mbah Mourns Death of Music Icon Gentleman Mike Ejeagha
Governor Mbah hailed Ejeagha as a revered son of Enugu, a national treasure, and a cultural ambassador whose music transcended boundaries and generations. He praised the late musician for his unmatched ability to weave Indigenous folktales into timeless melodies that resonated deeply with audiences both at home and abroad.

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of legendary highlife musician and cultural icon, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha, describing it as a monumental loss to the state, the nation, and the global music community.
In a heartfelt tribute on Saturday, Governor Mbah hailed Ejeagha as a revered son of Enugu, a national treasure, and a cultural ambassador whose music transcended boundaries and generations. He praised the late musician for his unmatched ability to weave Indigenous folktales into timeless melodies that resonated deeply with audiences both at home and abroad.
“Mike Ejeagha was a legend, a cultural ambassador, and one of the finest musicians of his generation,” Mbah said. “He had an easygoing personality and a humility that belied his towering celebrity status.”


Governor Mbah recounted his personal encounters with the music maestro, describing them as moments filled with warmth, wisdom, and joy. He emphasized that Ejeagha’s death has left an irreplaceable void, but affirmed that his legacy would endure for generations to come.
“This is a loss not only for his immediate family; it is a profound loss for Enugu State, the entire music community, and the nation as a whole,” he stated.
On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, Governor Mbah extended his condolences to the Ejeagha family and pledged that the state government would take steps to ensure the late musician’s memory is appropriately immortalized.
“Above all,” he added, “I pray that his family experiences the comforting grace of God’s love, and the fortitude to bear the loss.”
