NAFDAC Enforces Ban on Sachet Alcohol and Small Bottles
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced enforcement of the ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and in small PET or glass bottles with a capacity of less than 200 millilitres, in line with a resolution of the Senate and its statutory mandate to safeguard public health.

NAFDAC in a statement signed by the Director General of NAFDAC Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said the action is aimed at curbing harmful packaging practices that make alcoholic drinks easily accessible to minors and other vulnerable groups, thereby contributing to abuse and related social and health challenges.
The agency clarified that no alcohol-producing company has been shut down as a result of the enforcement. Rather, the ban applies strictly to specific pack sizes considered harmful, while larger and approved packaging formats remain permitted for production and sale.
According to NAFDAC DG, the ban is not punitive but protective which is designed to safeguard children from having easy access to alcohol.
