Orji Kalu Says Electronic and Manual Transmission of Election Results Shows Inclusivity
Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed strong support for the Senate’s decision approving the electronic transmission of election results from polling units across the country saying that it shows inclusivity.

Speaking after an emergency plenary session on Tuesday, Kalu said he added his voice to the Senate’s new position following the adoption of the amended Clause 60(3) of the Electoral Act. He explained that the amendment permits presiding officers to electronically transmit results after Form EC8A has been properly completed and signed.
“With the adoption of the amended Clause 60(3) of the Electoral Act, presiding officers are now permitted to transmit results electronically after Form EC8A has been duly completed and signed.
“This means electronic transmission becomes the primary method when the technology is available and functional. However, where it fails or becomes impossible, the duly signed Form EC8A remains the valid and primary source of results.”
He noted, however, that in situations where electronic transmission fails or becomes impossible due to network or technical challenges, the duly signed Form EC8A will remain the valid and authoritative source for result collation.
Kalu described the approach as balanced and inclusive, saying it enhances transparency, fairness, and credibility in the electoral process while safeguarding the votes of citizens in areas with limited or no network coverage.
