Defence Minister Summons Service Chiefs Over Rising Attacks on Military Bases
The Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, has summoned the nation’s top military commanders to an emergency meeting in Abuja following a surge in deadly attacks on military bases, particularly in the North East.

The high-level meeting, held at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, brought together senior security officials including the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Gwabin Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Air Staff, Hasan Bala Abubakar; and Chief of Naval Staff, Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla.
Representatives of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) were also in attendance.
The meeting was convened to review the worsening security situation after a series of attacks by terrorists on military formations in the North East, especially in Borno State.
Security sources say the recent assaults resulted in the deaths of at least three Commanding Officers of Lieutenant-Colonel rank, along with several soldiers. The attacks also left many civilians abducted as insurgent groups continue to target communities in the region.
During the meeting, the Defence Minister reportedly stressed the need to reassess current operational strategies and strengthen coordination among the armed forces and intelligence agencies to effectively confront the insurgency.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, the Chief of Defence Staff noted that although Nigerian troops have suffered casualties in recent battles, the insurgents have also sustained heavy losses during ongoing military operations.
