Two Killed in Okpuno Land Dispute: Police Recover Pump Action Gun, Arrest Five Suspects

A violent land dispute in Okochi-Ime Village, Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government Area, has resulted in the death of two individuals and serious injuries to another, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed on Thursday.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga on Thursday, the attack occurred on June 3, 2025, when armed assailants, operating in an unmarked black Toyota Corolla, stormed the area and opened fire on their victims.
Two people were killed on the spot, while a third victim sustained grievous injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
In a swift response, police operatives recovered an automatic pump action gun from the crime scene and apprehended five suspects, who are now in custody and undergoing interrogation.

The Police Commissioner has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a thorough investigation. Additional efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who remain at large.
“This senseless violence is deeply troubling. The Command is fully committed to bringing everyone involved in this heinous act to justice,” SP Ikenga stated.
The police have assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
