COVID-19: ‘Facemask Made Compulsory in Abia State’ – Gov. Ikpeazu Says

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has stated that all residents of the State both visiting or passing through the State must wear a face mask.

This was made known on Tuesday at the Abia State Government house, Umuahia as he reiterated that people visiting public places are all expected to wear a face mask.

Dr. Okezie further stated that all the owners of the public places people visit must provide hand washing buckets with running water and sanitizers.

Read the statement,”In exercise of the powers conferred on me by paragraph 15(2) of the Abia state Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020 and other extant laws, I, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu(PhD), Governor of Abia State hereby directs:

1. That with effect from 15th day of April 2020,

i. All residents of Abia State and those visiting and or passing through Abia State shall wear authentic face masks in all public places such as markets, petrol stations, shops, shopping malls, event centres, bars, hotels, places of worship, educational institutions, prisons, offices etc.”

“ii. That all occupiers of premises where members of the public visit for commercial, ceremonial, religious, charity, and or educational purposes shall provide hand sanitizers and or running water with soap to enable visitors to these places sanitize and or wash their hands before entering the premises.”

Abia State has not recorded any positive case on Coronavirus and has also closed its borders in order to keep the State free of the virus.
