Abia State Government has announced the confirmation of five new cases of Coronavirus in the State bringing the number of infected persons to six.
The Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu PhD announced this at a press briefing at the Governor’s Lodge Aba while stating that the borders remain closed and ‘commitment by every person especially those manning our borders.’
Governor Ikpeazu stated that three of the cases were returnees from Lagos and are from Ofeme, Afugiru communities in Umuahia North LGA and Olokoro in Umuahia South LGA while the remaining two are asymptomatic.
According to a press statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, ‘the new cases have reemphasized the need for total closure of the State’s borders and commitment by every person especially those manning our borders’ the Governor states.
‘The war against COVID 19 is one that has tasked everyone to show leadership at all levels.’
Dr Ikpeazu stated that the rapid response team has been activated to move into the affected areas to fish out contacts with the affected persons and called on all those who came in contact with the new cases to come forward for testing.
The Governor made it clear that the Abia State Government is not deterred by the new results as it has enough facilities to nurse those infected with the disease back to health.
He said his administration will review the relaxation of the lockdown if the need arises and warned transporters who refuse to respect the government guidelines on the interstate movement that the full weight of the State Government will be brought to bear against them.
