Police Bows to Pressure, Releases Commissioner Held Over Rape Allegation

Following the arrest of Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Abdulmumuni Danga, over allegations of rape, battery and assault, the police has bowed to the pressure from the State Governor Yahaya Bello.

Mr Danga assaulted and allegedly raped the girl Miss Elizabeth Oyeniyi over a Facebook post and will be charged to court within three weeks as stated by the police.

Mr Danga wrote a statement after intense persuasion from the police.

A source within the police confirmed to SaharaReporters that Governor Bello pressured the police to ensure the commissioner does not spend the night at the police station.

After about four hours at the FCID, the police released Danga, allowing him to walk freely out of the station without assurance of him returning when summoned.

“After interrogation, the police allowed him to go. He was pestered to write a statement. The statement would be added to the evidence that has been collected and he would be charged to court within three weeks,” the source said.

The victim identified as Elizabeth, had in a posted on her Facebook wall urged the commissioner to assist his kid sister and other members of his family financially.

Elizabeth said she decided to make the Facebook post following series of complaints by the commissioner’s sister to her.

The post did not go down well with the commissioner, who hired a thugs to seize Elizabeth from her home in Lokoja with her three-year-old son.

“On getting there, they flogged me. He flogged us himself, stripped me naked and made a video of me threatening to post it when next I make any public comment about it,” she said.

Narrating how the commissioner raped her, she said Danga held her captive and took her to a hotel at night where he forcefully had sex with her.

She expressed fear for her life, revealing that she and her family members were receiving threats from loyalists and thugs of the commissioner.
