NIMC Embarks on Strike Over COVID-19, Extortion, Others

The staff of the National Identification Management Commission has embarked on a sit-down strike after a meeting with its members on the 6th of January, 2021.

In a communique issued by the Senior Civil Servant of the Agency on the 6th of January stated that members of the staff have infected with COVID-19 as there has been no appropriate avenue to curtail the spread of the virus and protect the lives of the workers.

Recall that the NIMC has been a busy agency since the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Drisa Pantami revealed that the agency will block any phone number not linked with a national identification number.

Nigerians have trooped to the centres in every State trying to register for the National Identification.

According to the communique, the civil servants who were directed to be at their place of work but do nothing revealed that there has been a lopsided and irregular promotion in the agency.

They also asked that all staff who were suspended over extortion should be reinstated until a proper investigation is done.

The staff also complained of adequate working tools necessary for the enrolment of civic data and monthly operational stipends.
