A Brooklyn man turned to social media message boards to ask people to send a picture of their positive COVID test results so he could get out of hosting his visiting family members. He wrote a message on NextDoor, a social media app for neighbourhoods and local neighbours to connect and communicate on.
“I need help. I know this is a bizarre request, but I’m looking for a positive COVID test result from within the past few days.”
He added, “You can obscure any identifying info (like your name), but I have relatives coming into town. I told them they couldn’t stay with me, but they already bought a ticket and arrive shortly. I’m hoping that showing a positive COVID result will convince them to stay elsewhere.” Though it was a strange request, looks like his neighbours felt his pain. One even sent a positive test result.
“Here you go.” The Crown Heights resident came to the man’s rescue and sent him an at-home positive result. Other neighbours agreed with the hassle of holiday time and spending unwanted time with imposing relatives.
A neighbour said, “I don’t have one, but I feel this energy and I am rooting for you.” Another one responded, “Unwanted company can be terrible. It’s rude and disrespectful to invade someone’s space.”
Many have been doing everything possible to keep COVID away while the man is doing everything possible to get close to it.
Though he was in luck, it turns out a fraudulent COVID diagnosis is illegal according to the law.
