The Abia State University, Uturu, has joined the ongoing two months strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities over its failed negotiations with the Federal Government just days after recalling students.
On Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor of ABSU, Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu approved the resumption for the First Semester, 2021/2022 academic session and urged students to resume on the 19th of March, 2022.
He warned that only bonafide who has paid their fees and registered their courses will be allowed in the school vicinity.
The full statement reads:
“The Vice Chancellor, Abia State University, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, on behalf of Management, has approved the resumption for First Semester, 2021/2022 academic session of the University on Saturday, 19th March, 2022.
“Accordingly, all new and returning students are advised to complete their registration formalities on or before Friday, 25th March, 2022 as Lectures will commence on Monday, 28th March, 2022.
“Please, be informed that only bonafide students of the University who have paid their fees and registered their courses, as appropriate, shall be allowed access to facilities in the University.
“Students, their Parents and Guardians, are to note and be properly guided”, the announcement concluded.
However, in a letter signed by the ASUU-ABSU chairperson V.U. Nkemdirim on Wednesday 16th March 2022 revealed that the Institution will join the ongoing strike and urged cooperation in the struggle by public Universities.
