Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike has ordered the immediate shutdown of academic activities in the school hours after a protest broke out in the school.
In a statement on Tuesday, he stated that over 70% of students had paid their tuition while others were in a queue to pay and so accused miscreants who invaded the school for the protest.
To safeguard the school properties, he advised students to leave the school premises before 5 pm on February 6.
Newsleverage had reported on Tuesday that there was a protest by students after the Vice Chancellor moved from college to college to fish out students who had not paid their fees and stopped them from writing the first-semester examination following the over 60% increment of tuition.
The students blocked the convoy of the VC and demanded a reversal of the fees which proved abortive.
They took to the streets demanding the school management reverse the school fees which were taken to N130-N150k from N46k-N56k.
