Shehu Sani, a human rights activist, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for refraining from unnecessary foreign travel, particularly in light of the $4.2 billion grant from Brazil aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s agricultural development agenda.
Speaking on Monday, the former federal lawmaker noted that presidential foreign trips have often been seen as wasteful, yielding little in terms of significant investment. He commended President Tinubu for securing verifiable and tangible economic benefits.
In a post on X, he stated: “The history of presidential foreign travel in this country has been infamously wasteful. However, there is a notable difference this time around.
“The President’s visits to Saudi Arabia, Brazil, France, China, and South Africa have attracted verifiable and practical economic gains for Nigeria.
“I am particularly excited about Brazil’s $4.2 billion grant to boost Nigeria’s agriculture, which will be distributed among all our local governments. It’s acceptable to travel and return with substantial benefits; however, to travel and come back empty-handed is not acceptable.”
